BILL 9 TRAINING
Bill 9
Bill 9 came into effect on September 1st, 2008. This bill affects all those who possess handguns (restricted and prohibited) in the province of Quebec. In practical terms, this means that each person who owns one or more registered restricted or prohibited firearms must justify its use and the frequency of its use.
Since then, this new bill has also contributed to the popularity of shooting clubs. With this new-found growth, shooting clubs have been able to offer better facilities to their members.
A club permit-holder will remove the membership card or refuse to renew the membership of any member who has not practiced target shooting in over one year.
To attend a training course, please contact the shooting club in your region.
Duration of the course: From 4 to 6 hours (including the tests).
Cost: $40, includes a manual, a practical test and a theory exam.
This course offers the required knowledge on the safe handling of firearms with actual shooting supervised in a shooting range.
- It is intended for any person who wishes to use a restricted or prohibited firearm in an accredited shooting club in Quebec.
- Completely passing the course (present in class AND exam) is required to obtain a Bill 9 certificate of achievement.
- The certificate of achievement obtained from this course is required to obtain a membership card from a handgun shooting club in Quebec.
- It is possible to take the exam directly without attending the course, at a cost of $25, but if the exam is not passed, it must be retaken (and the $25 fee must be paid again).
